The biggest thing you will notice when you walk down the street in shanghai that is widely different from walking down the street in nyc, is carts. There are bikes that have a cart behind them (kinda like a tricycle), and carts that are pulled by people. Some carts are used for transport of various things, some for selling fruit, some for collecting garbage or recycling. Other carts are used for peddling a menagerie of goods or carrying children. Many people ring a bell as they pass with their cart, signaling for you to bring down your trash/recycling (the driver of the cart will take the waste and sell it or do something with it for money). Here is a picture of a woman selling peaches from her cart. (this cart was much more photogenic than the garbage carts). Oh and the other thing you will notice is people sweeping the street with what looks like weeds for a broom
